TOAST (OMU) Montag 08.08.2011

Delicious, GB 2010, 96 Min., Director: S.J. Clarkson, with: Helena Bonham Carter, Freddie Highmore, Oscar Kennedy, Victoria Hamilton Rated: 6

Nigel Slater is as celebrated TV-Cook and author of cookery books in Great Britain. Jamie Oliver’s remark “Nigel is a bloody genius” hits the nail on the head. Slater’s career path is shown in this humorous and magic film by BILLY ELLIOT scriptwriter Lee Hall.

The only meal his mother is able to make is toast. And it is of no use that Nigel secretly studies cookery books under his blanket during the night. After his mothers death, Mrs. Potter arrives, who at first is only the charlady. Yet she knows that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach and so it doesn’t take long until she wraps Nigel’s father round her little finger by preparing delicious meals…

A warm hearted comedy with a lot of esprit and British humor. Those who can’t come and see this jewel of a film on the “Seebühne” should go to the atlantis or atelier cinema in Munich.

  1. Wir haben drei Tage vor dem offiziellen Deutschlandstart am Donnerstag die Preview von TOAST auf dem Spielplan. Eine ganz wunderbare, warmherzige Komödie über den englischen Starkoch Nigel Slater.
