Harold and Maude (OV) Montag 18.06.2012

Classics, USA 1971, Director: Hal Ashby, with: Bud Cort, Ruth Gordon, Vivian Pickles, Cyril Cusack, Charles Tyner, Ellen Geer Rated: 12

Harold is only 20 years old, but already dead, i.e. he wishes to be dead. It seems to him that life doesn’t offer anything that is worth living. Consequently simulating suicides has become his hobby as well as driving a hearse or attending funerals of people who are complete strangers to him.
Harold’s mother doesn’t consider her son’s grotesque attitude towards life as abnormal. She simply ignores it and each time Harold tries to hang himself and is swinging on the rope she only comments: „Dinner is ready.”

Maude is just the opposite. Every day the nearly 80-year-old woman discovers something new in her life. She disregards all conventions and lives in a railway carriage. One day the two of them happen to run into each other and don’t want to separate anymore
Together with Maude Harold starts a new life and even wants to marry her. But 79-year-old Maude has different plans.
